Woman charged in Minneapolis shelter attack

A woman has been charged in connection with an attack on a Minneapolis shelter.

The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office (HCAO) charged 33-year-old Eureka Dominique Riser (also known as Eureka Willis) with second-degree riot and criminal damage to property.

As previously reported, on September 5, officers responded to a disturbance call at St. Anne’s Place, a shelter for homeless families in Minneapolis.

Police say a verbal argument between shelter residents and people living in the same block escalated into physical violence.

During the altercation, the shelter and a car belonging to a shelter resident were damaged. Police also added that one person was attacked and a vehicle was damaged in the shooting.

Surveillance footage shows people, including the victim, running to the shelter.

Officials say that minutes later, a group of at least three people, including Riser, approached the front door of the building. Riser left briefly but returned with a baseball bat and began banging on the front door.

A short time later, the victim went outside and then returned inside through a side door. Riser and at least two other people followed the victim up the side stairs of the building, according to HCAO.

Riser began pounding on the side door with a baseball bat and shattered the glass while the victim and other occupants, including children, were inside.

Building managers estimate the damage to be at least $10,000, and all residents had to be evacuated and relocated to another building for safety reasons.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed against others involved. Riser is currently in custody at the Hennepin County Jail.

In a later update, Minneapolis police said they had arrested a 35-year-old man for his involvement in at least one attack during the incident. The suspect was arrested around 7 p.m. during a traffic stop and booked into the Hennepin County Jail on charges of second-degree assault, use of a weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon.
