Cubs lineup (09/13/24): Opening game at Colorado

COMPOSITION OF THE CUBS — The Cubs open a new series in Colorado this weekend at Coors Field. Here’s a look at their lineup against left-hander Austin Gomber.

Chicago Cubs roster:

  1. Ian Happ, LF
  2. Dansby Swanson, SS
  3. Seiya Suzuki, DH
  4. Cody Bellinger, RF
  5. Isaac Paredes, 3B
  6. Michael Busch, 1B
  7. Nico Hoerner, 2B
  8. Pete Crow-Armstrong, CF
  9. Miguel Amaya, C

With Michael Busch starting every game (regardless of pitcher) and Dansby Swanson already working his way up the Cubs lineup (on his own merit), the batting order remains unchanged tonight, even against a lefty. Everyone in their usual spots, Miguel Amaya back behind the plate.

Colorado Rockies roster:

  1. Charlie Blackmon, DH
  2. Ezequiel Tovar, SS
  3. Brenton Doyle, CF
  4. Ryan McMahon, 3B
  5. Brendan Rodgers, 2B
  6. Michel Toglia, 1B
  7. Nolan Jones, LF
  8. Hunter Goodman, C
  9. Jordan Beck, RF

Pitchers’ confrontation:

The Chicago Cubs: Javier Assad, right-handed

Javier Assad has been on a hot streak lately, at least in terms of results: 2.92 ERA in his last seven starts. And while the first three outings of that stretch were shorter and yielded too many walks, he’s been in a better place lately, recording at least two outs in the sixth inning four straight times. It’s never easy pitching at Coors Field, though. So we’ll see how he performs tonight. Just finishing the season healthy and strong would be a win at this point.

Colorado Rockies: Austin Gomber, left-handed pitcher

Austin Gomber hasn’t had a great season overall (4.50 ERA, 4.79 FIP), but he’s had five solid starts in a row: 3.00 ERA, 33.0 IP. His last one was his best of the season, with eight innings of one-run ball against the Atlanta Braves with five hits, no walks and six strikeouts.
