Apartment fire on Pebble Valley Road, Waukesha

WAUKESHA, Wisconsin.A Waukesha firefighter was injured while responding to an apartment fire Friday afternoon, September 13.

The incident happened on Pebble Valley Road at University Drive around 3:20 p.m. Officers said a passerby called 911 after seeing black smoke coming from a second-story window of an apartment building.

Residents were leaving the building as firefighters arrived. One elderly resident was helped out of a second-story apartment next to where the fire started as crews entered the building to extinguish the flames.

The firefighter who was injured had a minor injury, went to the hospital and was released. No residents were injured.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation but does not appear suspicious, the fire department said. Damage to the building was estimated at $80,000 and was largely confined to the apartment where the fire started.
