CLYMER — The Clymer-French Creek Free Library is looking for a new director after its current director, Darlene Redlecki, officially resigned last weekend.

“After six years and one month, I decided to step down as library director to slow down a bit,” Redlecki said. “I’m also an elementary school teacher and I just decided it was time for me to focus on just one career and certainly have more time for my family.”

Redlecki described the past six years at the library as “amazing” for her, saying she will leave with “a lot of fond memories, successes, growth and great friendships.”

She added that it has been an honor to serve the local Clymer and French Creek community as library director for the past six years and that she will be forever grateful for the experience.

“I’m looking forward to spending a lot more time with my family as I leave this position,” Redlecki said. “I’m looking forward to the millions of memories waiting to be made. As I said, I’m a teacher, so now I can spend more time with my students and families.”

On Friday evenings, Redlecki can also be found at the family dairy farm, where he helps milk the cows.

The Clymer-French Creek Library Board of Trustees is currently searching for a new director, and Redlecki said she hopes they can find a happy person for the position.

“The job posting has just been posted, so I hope they find the happiest person to take over and continue working at our library, a true treasure in our community,” Redlecki said. “I can’t express in words how happy I am to have been given this opportunity, and I sincerely hope my successor finds the same in this position.”

In addition, Redlecki said she hopes the next director will take the time and have the heart to understand the community, connect with and appreciate the library’s users and understand their likes and preferences.

Redlecki described the library as an asset to the community, saying it is very busy and serves many patrons. The library offers not only books and other reading materials, but also a variety of programs, along with the ability to use computers, fax and copy services, along with an electronic collection on Libby and more.

“The library is certainly important, and I hope it will be as busy and utilized as it is now for many years to come,” Redlecki said. “This community is special. The library’s patrons have left a lasting impression on my heart. I will especially miss the people and the books, but I am very excited about having a little more free time and spending it with my wonderful family.”

Redlecki said she will also miss the children and the children’s programs, saying one of the most rewarding parts of the job was seeing their energy, enthusiasm and love for the library and books. She leaves the library knowing that it is an important part of the community and that she was able to play a part in that.

“I leave this position knowing that I have been able to make a difference in the lives of others and have a significant impact on the community,” Redlecki said. “Many people have started visiting and using the library in ways they never did before, and it has been so much fun to see the excitement of my patrons of all ages just walking through the library doors. As the old saying goes, all good things must come to an end. So here’s a new chapter.”

According to the Clymer-French Creek Free Library Facebook page, the position of library director is for an “energetic and friendly person who loves books, working with people, and is a strong team player.” The director will work directly with the library’s Board of Trustees and will be responsible for all library operations and promotion. The position also requires at least a two-year degree.

Anyone interested in the position can mail their resume to Clymer-French Creek Library, 564 Clymer-Sherman Road, PO Box 68, Clymer, New York 14724.
