New medical students to start medical school in Jonesboro

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – Medical students were honored Friday during their white coat ceremony at Arkansas State University.

The Class of 2028 is the ninth class of the New York Institute of Technology, Department of Osteopathic Medicine to graduate from Arkansas State University.

“The white coat ceremony itself is intended to establish a moment when a student transitions into their new role as a medical student,” said Shane Speights, DO, dean of NYITCOM at A-State.

After presenting the students with medical uniforms, they took an oath in which they pledged to honour this privilege and responsibility.

“This is a truly special time as we commemorate the beginning of student medical school history and celebrate the new class with their families and friends,” Speights said.

Speights and Nicole Wadsworth, DO, dean of NYITCOM, spoke at the ceremony.

Medical student Nathaniel Lamb, a Brookland resident, shares why he’s excited to study in his hometown.

“It was an amazing experience to be able to live here and know that I can make an impact on the local community by coming and becoming a doctor in this region.”

Lamb admits that he owes his love of medicine to observing his father, a physician.
