Arif out on bail, Mahtab sent to jail in Setu Bhaban vandalism case

A Dhaka court today (August 3) granted bail to Arif Sohel, a student of Jahangirnagar University (JU) and coordinator of the Students’ Anti-Discrimination Movement, in connection with a case filed in connection with the vandalism and arson attack on Setu Bhaban on July 18.

The court also sentenced former BRAC University lecturer Asif Mahtab to prison following his six-day pretrial detention in the case.

The order was issued by Dhaka Metropolitan Judge Md Shanto Islam Mallik.

Earlier in the day, the police detective department and the investigating officer in charge of the case, Inspector Abu Sayeed Mia, produced Arif Sohel and Asif Mahtab before the court after six days of remand.
